2. Name 5 books that you didn’t get to this year but want to make a priority in 2018.

I actually started reading a couple of these. But I put them down and forgot to pick them back up. Or I just had something I wanted/needed to read more. Either way, here are five books I plan to prioritize this year.

Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #1)
Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper #1)
by Kerri Maniscalco

Presented by James Patterson's new children's imprint, this deliciously creepy horror novel has a storyline inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion...

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling, #1 New York Times bestselling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.

8306725Battle Magic (The Circle Reforged #3)
by Tamora Pierce

NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Tamora Pierce returns to the magical world of Winding Circle.

While visiting the God-King and the First Circle temple in Gyongxe, mages Briar, Rosethorn, and Evvy are invited to visit the emperor's summer palace. Although treated like royalty when they first arrive, the mages soon discover that the emperor plans to invade Gyongxe, posing a fatal threat to the home temple of the Living Circle religion.

Accompanied by one of the emperor's prize captives, the three mages rush to Gyongxe to warn its citizens of the impending attack. With the imperials hot on their trail, Briar, Rosethorn, and Evvy must quickly help the country prepare for battle.

But even with the help of new allies, will their combined forces be enough to fight the imperial army and win the war?

35504431Turtles All the Way Down
by John Green

#1 bestselling author John Green returns with his first new novel since The Fault in Our Stars!

Sixteen-year-old Aza never intended to pursue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, but there’s a hundred-thousand-dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. So together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son, Davis.

Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts.

In his long-awaited return, John Green, the acclaimed, award-winning author of Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars, shares Aza’s story with shattering, unflinching clarity in this brilliant novel of love, resilience, and the power of lifelong friendship.

26150580Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined (Twilight #1, 1.75)
by Stephenie Meyer

Mirroring the plot of Twilight, Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined follows 17-year-old Beaufort Swan as he leaves the sunny environment of Phoenix, Arizona where he has spent most of his life with his mother, Renée Dwyer, to the gloomy town of Forks, Washington to spend the rest of his high school career with his estranged father, police chief Charlie Swan.

As Beau walks into the class, a fan blows his scent towards Edythe Cullen. Beau sits next to Edythe in biology class on his first day of school, but she seems repulsed by him, hurting his feelings in the process. She disappears for a few days, but warms up to Beau upon his return; their newfound relationship is interrupted after Beau is nearly crushed by a van in the school parking lot. Edythe saves Beau, stopping the van with only her hand.

29283884The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue (Guide #1)
by Mackenzi Lee

Henry “Monty” Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. The finest boarding schools in England and the constant disapproval of his father haven’t been able to curb any of his roguish passions—not for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men.

But as Monty embarks on his Grand Tour of Europe, his quest for a life filled with pleasure and vice is in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.

Still it isn’t in Monty’s nature to give up. Even with his younger sister, Felicity, in tow, he vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.

3. What genre do you want to read more of?

Unlike most people, I missed out on reading comics as a kid, so I am quite behind on all the Marvel and DC comics. As a fan of the DC movies/shows, and a HUGE fan of the Marvel movies/shows, I've been wanting to delve into the lore and literature and get all those easter eggs I always see in the movies and shows but never understand.

4. Name 3 non book related goals for 2018.

~ Find a job I enjoy. I'm on the job market. I'm in the process of hopefully being approved by the BVR for their job placement program. I hope that with their help, I can find a job that gives me a reliable income - which I desperately need - and something that I enjoy doing. I've worked many jobs that I absolutely hated and I really hope that I don't have to do that again.

~ Save up money. When I do get another job, I really need to work on being a little more careful saving money. I still live with family and its well past time to get out on my own. But with the cost of living so high, I'll need to save up as much as I can for a little while to afford it.

~ Get Into Therapy. I haven't really talked about it on this blog, but I have a mental illness that I've just barely been managing for years, barely keeping my head above water. I'm far past ready to get back into therapy (I had been in therapy as a teen) and work on the issues I wasn't ready to work on then.

5. What’s a book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?

I know, I know... I'm remarkable behind on reading the final book. And the bad thing is, I got the book months after it was out... so I've had it for a decade and I STILL haven't read it. I'm a failure as a Potterhead! lol. But, I do plan to read it.

136251Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter #7)
by J.K. Rowling

It's no longer safe for Harry at Hogwarts, so he and his best friends, Ron and Hermione, are on the run. Professor Dumbledore has given them clues about what they need to do to defeat the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, once and for all, but it's up to them to figure out what these hints and suggestions really mean.

Their cross-country odyssey has them searching desperately for the answers, while evading capture or death at every turn. At the same time, their friendship, fortitude, and sense of right and wrong are tested in ways they never could have imagined.

The ultimate battle between good and evil that closes out this final chapter of the epic series takes place where Harry's Wizarding life began: at Hogwarts. The satisfying conclusion offers shocking last-minute twists, incredible acts of courage, powerful new forms of magic, and the resolution of many mysteries.

Above all, this intense, cathartic book serves as a clear statement of the message at the heart of the Harry Potter series: that choice matters much more than destiny, and that love will always triumph over death.

6. One word that your hoping 2018 will be:

PRODUCTIVE. I need to get a lot done this year, both professionally and personally. I'm hoping this will be the year to do it.
